This is probably in storage down in the Navy Yard. Sylvester was into body piercings earlier than most Americans apparently.

Plaque, Ship, USS Alameda County.
The USS Alameda County was redesignated an Advance Aviation Base Ship in 1957. Prior to that the Alameda was originally designated a Tank Landing Ship LST-32. The Alameda was decommissioned in 1962.

Summer in the 'burbs

This ice cream truck was parked for a couple of days in Arlington, VA. I think the grafitti-influenced paintings are pretty eye-catching.

Here's a picture from work that one of the assistant archivists brought to my attention today. This poor guy has a gunshot wound of his lower femur (with a Blackhawk comic book on the bed) during the Korean War, 1951.

Comics in the World photographs - National Museum of Natural History

The new Oceans exhibit in the National Museum of Natural History in Washington has some cartoons scattered through it. According to one of the exhibit designers, Jill Johnson (in a comment below), they're "by local artist Jim Haynes, Graphics Plus, Silver Spring, MD." The exhibit is very good, and big, so there's probably more than these three that I caught:

I was at Borders in Bailey's Cross Roads, VA for George Pelecanos's talk about his new book The Turnaround and I also took some pictures of clever parts of their comic book displays. Also note that they have the Masters of Comic Art catalogue for $10 and Jeff Danziger's last book for $3. I paid full price for both. They've also got a DC Superheroes How to Draw Kit for $4.

Dr. Seuss prints on sale in a gallery. Supposedly signed, they weren't. I'm sure these were printed after his death.
